An employee was performing maintenance on a tie jig (equipment that grabs railroad ties) which was connected to the bucket of an excavator. After performing some repairs underneath the tie jig, the employee crawled underneath the other side of the tie jig to make a final repair and was crushed by the tie jig. The employee was hospitalized with a broken sternum and broken ribs.
