An employee was instructing an excavator operator to lift a piece of reinforced concrete pipe (weighing about 10,300 pounds, 6 feet long, and 60 inches in diameter) when it rolled off the excavator bucket and onto the employee, causing a fracture and a torn ligament in his pelvis.
