OSHA Injury Reports

This OSHA Injury Report was compiled directly from data that is publicly available from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA Injury Reports can be helpful in understanding the types of workplace injury claims involving defective products or malfunctioning equipment in the workplace. 

The manufacturers of defective equipment or machinery resulting in a worker injury may be found to be negligent and liable for damages in a separate civil lawsuit. You may be able to recover damages on top of a workers’ comp claim if injured in a job accident caused, in part, by a third party. Report: Contact with hot objects or substances at Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Inc. in Santa Rosa, Texas

Employees were about to take samples of hot sugar cane juice as the machine was processing the sugar cane. An air bubble inside the line caused the line to burp, and 200-degree hot sugar cane juice inside the line splattered onto the employees. Two employees sustained first and second degree burns.

An employee was standing on a drill rig and stepped on the flight of an auger to pull the swing radius barricade tape into position. The auger tilted over and hit the employee’s hand, which was positioned on the counterweight of the drill rig. The employee’s left index finger was lacerated and fractured.
