Internal injuries to organs and blood vessels of the trunk

An employee was tripping pipe (drilling the pipe down) and screening a drill collar into a stump. He and another employee pushed the tongs into the spinning pipe. The tongs then bit back, crushing him between the tongs and the derrick leg. He received fractures to his upper torso and punctured both lungs.

An employee changed a tire on a bus and began to lower it by removing the jacks. The second jack was still wedged under the bus, so he attempted to retrieve it. As he freed the jack, the bus lowered onto his chest, bruising his lungs and requiring hospitalization.

While loading a loader onto a flatbed trailer, an employee lost control of the equipment, which then fell off the trailer to the ground. The employee was caught between the loader and the ground, suffering a fractured arm, bruised ribs, punctured lung, and neck injury. The employee was hospitalized.

An employee was at the top of a hill reversing a truck on the left side of a ramp when the truck rolled off the ramp. The employee suffered a collapsed lung and broken ribs, requiring hospitalization.

An employee had loosened two bolts on an isolation plug and was working on the third one when the employee suffered fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

An employee was standing on the ground near a pipe rack while other employees picked up a joint from a catwalk. The joint came off its cradle, rolling back onto the pipe rack and hitting the employee. He was pinned between two joints, suffering bleeding in his abdominal cavity.

An employee was standing and supervising the take-down of a pole and lines when the pole cracked, broke in half, and fell toward the employee. The employee avoided being struck by the pole but fell to the ground, suffering broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and a collapsed lung.

An employee was working at a height of approximately 14 feet when he detached his fall protection system to move from one spot to another and fell to the lower level. He punctured a lung and broke two ribs and his right ankle. He was hospitalized.

An employee was exiting a vehicle when the vehicle rolled back on the employee resulting in fractured ribs, punctured lungs and a fractured cheek bone.

An employee was priming bolts in a stairwell while standing on a 6-foot step ladder. He had a paint can in one hand and a paint brush in the other hand. He fell as he was descending the step ladder, breaking two ribs and suffering a collapsed right lung. He was hospitalized.
