Fractures

On December 26, 2019, an employee fell and hit an elbow. The employee was hospitalized with a fractured elbow.

An employee was locating underground utilities at a street intersection. A car hit the employee, who suffered two broken legs and a broken arm.

A longshoreman was standing next to a partially lifted load of mixed-length pipe, preparing to pull slings from beneath the load supported by the vessel’s crane. One 20-foot piece of pipe (stowed on top of 40-foot pipe) rolled from the bundle, rolling onto the longshoreman’s left ankle and causing multiple fractures. The longshoreman was hospitalized.

An employee was checking a customer’s backyard for electrical service when the employee stepped on a pad transformer, slipped, and fell to the ground, breaking the lower back.

An employee was holding a column in place when the eyelet broke, causing the column to shift and strike the employee’s back. The employee was hospitalized with a back fracture.

An employee was prepping lettuce outside of a freezer door. As she walked in front of the freezer, someone opened the door. The door hit her right shoulder. She then lost balance and fell onto her left side on the floor, fracturing her left hip and lower femur.

An employee was working on the chain and pulley of an overhead door when the chain hooked to the employee’s glove and pulled his hand onto the sprocket. He sustained a couple of broken left-hand fingers and damage to the nerve and veins.

An employee was dismounting from a crane onto the work deck next to the cab. He attempted to jump from the platform approximately 3 feet across to a road work area. When he landed, his foot slipped and he fell backwards to the ground. He was hospitalized with a fractured vertebra.

An employee was guiding a bucket truck that was being backed up when he tripped and fell, hitting his head on a concrete sidewalk and breaking his neck.

An employee and a co-worker were turning over a piece of structural steel for painting operations when the steel rolled onto the injured employee’s right foot, resulting in fractured bones.
